Who is this guide for?
This guide is for you if, after contacting healthcare, you want to view prescriptions, test results, treatment entries or other health and social welfare data.
It does not explain the medical meaning of results. If information is unclear or worrying, contact the healthcare service that handled your matter.
What is OmaKanta / MyKanta?
OmaKanta, called MyKanta in English, is Kanta's nationwide online service where you can view your health and social welfare data.
According to Kanta, you should always log in through the kanta.fi website. There is also a MyKanta mobile application, but all functions are available in the online service.
Nationwide service
MyKanta collects data from public and private health and social welfare services when the provider has recorded the data in Kanta Services.
Not a replacement for healthcare contact
MyKanta shows data and enables certain actions, but care and advice are handled by healthcare services.
What data can you see?
In MyKanta, you can see, for example, entries related to your care, laboratory test results, prescriptions, social services client data and information about how your data is used.
Not all data appears immediately. Visibility depends on when the healthcare or social welfare provider records and transfers the data to Kanta.
Data path after contact
Step 1
You visit a healthcare service or receive remote contact
This is the next point in the route.
Step 2
The professional makes the necessary entries in the provider's system
This is the next point in the route.
Step 3
The data is transferred to Kanta according to the provider's practice
This is the next point in the route.
Step 4
You see the data in MyKanta when it has been stored and made visible
This is the next point in the route.
Step 5
If data is missing or incorrect, contact the unit that treated you
This is the next point in the route.
Prescriptions and renewal
In MyKanta, you can view prescriptions and request prescription renewal if renewal is available through the service. A renewal request does not mean an automatic decision or immediate medicine change.
Healthcare assesses whether the prescription can be renewed and whether more information is needed. A pharmacy can view electronic prescription data in its official role.
Prescription renewal
MyKanta can forward a renewal request, but a healthcare professional handles the matter.
Test results and treatment entries
Laboratory test results and treatment entries may be visible in MyKanta. The service shows the data, but it does not explain what a result means in your personal situation.
If a result, entry or further instruction is unclear, contact the unit that handled your matter. Do not make treatment decisions based only on a MyKanta entry without healthcare guidance.
How to log in
Using MyKanta requires a Finnish personal identity code and strong electronic identification. According to Kanta, means of identification may include online banking codes, a mobile certificate or an electronic ID card.
Log in through the kanta.fi website. If you cannot log in, the reason may relate to your identification method, personal identity code, authorisations or a temporary service disruption.
Acting on behalf of a child or another person
In MyKanta, you can act on behalf of another person in certain situations. A guardian may act on behalf of a minor child. Acting on behalf of an adult usually requires a Suomi.fi e-Authorization or another official role.
What data you can see and what you can do depends on your role and official authorisations. If the view is not what you expected, check Kanta's guidance and, if needed, Suomi.fi authorisations.
Child's data
A guardian can usually view a child's prescriptions and health information in MyKanta, but age and the type of data may affect visibility.
On behalf of an adult
Acting on behalf of an adult usually requires an electronic authorisation or another official right.
What if data is incorrect or missing?
If you notice an error or missing information in MyKanta, contact the social welfare or healthcare unit you attended. According to Kanta, the provider is responsible for recording and correcting data.
Kanta Services usually cannot correct a treatment entry for you because it did not create the entry. Tell the unit which information you mean, when the contact happened and why the information seems incorrect or missing.
If you need a sign language interpreter or help
If you need help using MyKanta, check Kanta's instructions or contact the service where you were treated. If the matter concerns a treatment entry, contact the unit that made the entry.
If you need a sign language interpreter for healthcare or authority matters, check Kela's interpreting service for persons with disabilities. Ask for important instructions in writing.
